Research Interest

  • Nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) is a complex trait which needs to be improved for agriculturally important crops in order to minimize N-fertilizer cost and environmental degradation caused due to unused applied-N in the soil. In order to improve nitrogen use efficiency of wheat, we follow nitrate-uptake mediated improvement of NUE in wheat. Currently my laboratory undertakes research on identification and functional characterization of key nitrate uptake and translocation related genes in bread wheat. We are also interested to identify partner proteins of two-component high affinity nitrate transport system in bread wheat.
